Move over sparkling diamonds, matte has arrived! Eyes, lips, face and even nails are victim of this trend’s finish. Playing with a texture or finish can totally change a look. While shiny, radiant looks make you appear younger, a matte finish is still vivid but more mature. Especially on nails it creates a cool and edgy look. On the face I tend to use 1 or 2 mattifying products a time because solely matte products make me look tired and somewhat frosted. And we don’t want that, do we?
All right, ready for my list? Here are my 5 essentials for total mattness.
1. Matte eye shadow ‘China Blue’ – NARS
Particularly dark colors with a velvety finish create an instant mysterious look. Apply sheer for daywear and after the office hours: layer for a dramatic, sexy glance and go get ‘em, Tiger!
2. Matte topcoat – OPI
This OPI darling takes a split second to transform any nail color from high gloss to matte. When I’m bored of my manicure (and there are no chips to discover yet), I cover my mani with a matte blanket for a true make-over. Blessed with a steady hand? Go for a French manicure 3.0. Apply your favorite glossy black nail polish and cover it with a matte topcoat. Now this is where the steady hand comes in: polish just the ends with the glossy black nail polish again and there you go: enviable nails guaranteed.
3. Stay matte oil-free make-up – Clinique
A proper matte canvas is the basis for actually any look. Definitely a worthy essential and cannot miss on this list.
4. Satin bright orange – MAKE UP FOR EVER
It was Rihanna’s collaboration with MAC that led to the birth of the immense popular Ruby Woo. An intense, reddish colored lipsticks with a matte and velvety texture. The overwhelming popularity didn’t go unnoticed and many similar babies followed. Just like this one, which is currently leading my wishlist: a bright, matte, almost neon orange colored lipstick from MUFE.
5. Prep + prime transparent finishing powder pressed – MAC
Like the four seasons, trends come and go. So instead of spending your entire savings account on the latest matte make-up, consider investing in a mattifying powder. My favorite way of using a pressed powder is to dab it over any lipstick for a nonglossy finish. Grab a tissue and the biggest brush available, press the tissue over your freshly painted lips and gently dab the powdered brush over your covered lips. Remove the tissue et voilà: say hello to matte!
Do you like it matte or prefer a gloss here and there?
