Everyone has essentials. Products, manners or rituals one can’t live without. The essentialist is my list of essentials for…well practically anything beauty related. This triptych is about 3 oils that definitely deserve a place in your beauty cabinet.
What’s the fuss about all these oils? I hear you thinking! Well these days we tend to long for products that are simple, real, sustainable and for solutions that have earned their spurs. Way back when there were no peelings, no camouflage sticks nor toothpaste or hair masks, oils were used to do their thing. Three oils found their way to my beauty cabinet, and they’re here to stay. First of these: tea tree oil.
Tea tree oil is my go to solution for rising evil (read as: pimples. Yes, despite the fact that I’m 27, still got to fight them). Because of tea trees healing and anti-inflammatory features it is the perfect answer to any onset. From the moment I feel something ‘not good’ coming up, a small dab with a cotton swab of tea tree oil is my defense. You might think that these occasions ask for heavier artillery: wrong. Tea tree oil operates by the principle ‘less is more’. As it’s so concentrated tiny amounts are sufficient.
Besides a wapen of mass destruction, this oil can be used in many different ways. All applications have a cleansing, healing or disinfecting nature. Diluted with water it can be used to steam in times of a cold, it is often used as an ingredient for homemade toothpaste (haven’t tried that one yet, but will very soon) and a few drops mixed with your favorite shampoo helps to get rid of dandruff.
The only downside I can think of is the very medicinal smell. Does it prevent me from using it? Uh-uh. In cases of rising evil: the end justifies the means.
Do you use tea tree oil? For what purpose?
